side event: business and development
Over the past two years, a consensus has emerged among academics, NGO’s, political actors and the business community, that the role of profit driven business in development needs to be reframed. However, while the call for including businesses in development strategies is widespread, the discussion on what that exactly means, on the opportunities and risks, and on the tools required to make it happen, is still ongoing. At the Business Summit Netherlands-Africa, a round table will make an attempt to bring together the different strains of the discussion and come to practical proposals on how to reframe the role of business in development.
The round table targets two questions:
1. What is the role of profit driven business in development?
2. How can the contribution of profit driven business to development be strengthened?
The round table is an initiative by STT, NABC and the
African Studies Centre (ASC). Attendance is by invitation only. This side event is kindly supported by
ICCO.
